In 1992, Grand Haven was officially designated "Coast Guard City" by an act of Congress. The city on Lake Michigan is home to miles of sandy beaches, bike trails, a state park, and a Great Lakes port that imports limestone and exports... you guessed it, sand.

In 1976, America celebrated it bicentennial. In Holland, Michigan, the tulips were in bloom and the annual festival was honored to host President Gerald R. Ford as its guest. Each year, Tulip City plants hundreds of thousands of flowers to celebrate the "Best Small Town Festival", an event that brings in over 1 million people.
